WAN / LAN

Count on Motorola's comprehensive enterprise Wireless
LAN line for all your mobility needs.

Whether you have a single office or a worldwide network, you can stay mobile and connected with Motorola's family of award-winning Wireless LAN products.

As few as ten years ago, IT managers relegated their network uptime concerns to the wired network. Wireless LANs were viewed largely as ancillary luxuries, and if the wireless network went awry, well, so be it. With employee productivity tightly tied to employee mobility, most companies rely on their wireless networks for core business operations. Today’s network users consider them less a luxury and more a necessity.

It should be noted that in a wireless world, network downtime affects not only the office, but also all the mobile devices connected to the network – from the wireless scanners on the manufacturing floor to the networked infusion pumps in a hospital’s emergency room to that dual-mode smartphone that is becoming key to user productivity.

In the nascent days of Wi-Fi, a corporate wireless LAN comprised a series of autonomous access points, scattered throughout the office and even branch offices around the globe. Garnering an effective radio signal was a matter of trial and error, and because there was no central management, the administrator wouldn’t know there was a problem until someone inevitably complained. Today’s Wi-Fi networks, managed from a central switch, can be even more reliable than a wired Ethernet network – but only if IT directors take the necessary steps to ensure reliability and promise superior quality of service in every aspect of the network.

Ensuring reliability means planning for expected challenges

It should go without saying that a reliable wireless LAN depends on smart planning and preemptive troubleshooting on the part of the IT manager – i.e. designing the network based on the specific needs of the company. Implementing a WLAN without conducting a thorough site survey, only to find that it does not reliably serve your employees, makes about as much sense as purchasing a Volkswagen Bug on a whim, only to find that it does not reliably transport a family of eight. Such an approach creates coverage, bandwidth and other reliability issues.

Investing in a Motorola wireless LAN means ensuring reliability

Fortunately, Motorola offers the tools necessary for a multi-faceted approach to deliver a network that dependably provides optimal network service and superior quality of experience.

This is wireless LAN reliability.

Compared with other leading wireless network equipment providers, Motorola has the most resilient, reliable portfolio on the market - from conception to future- proofing, and every step in between.

One Point Design and Deployment Solutions

The One Point Suite includes three powerful design/ deployment solutions:

  • BroadbandPlanner is a powerful and efficient software solution that helps you propose, design, deploy and measure Point-to-Multipoint and Mesh Wide Area Network systems. The tool’s advanced RF modeling engine automates the process of determining optimum equipment placement while taking into consideration the impact of the physical environment on the wireless signals. BroadbandPlanner offers integration with Google Earth and streamlined network measurement and verification. It makes designing and optimizing networks easy with signal strength heatmaps, optimal urban-canyon relay locations and terrain obstruction path profiles.
  • PTP LINKPlanner simplifies design of Point-to- Point links by accurately predicting achievable data rates, taking into account terrain profile and obstructions between links, antenna heights and antenna type/size. Through integration with Google Earth™, PTP LINKPlanner allows for exceptional real-world link path visualization of single or multiple link designs. Additionally, you can create “what if” scenarios while determining important performance measurements such as link reliability, throughput and path loss.
  • LANPlanner uses an intuitive 3D interface with multi-floor building coverage visualizations and an advanced RF performance modeling engine to help customers design and install 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless LANs that deliver maximum performance at minimum cost. This powerful tool can model not only signal strength and interference but also throughput for 802.11n MIMO access points. LANPlanner makes it easy to see how a planned network will perform for applications like web surfing, file downloads, FTP file transfers, video conferencing, wireless VoIP or location based triangulation with specialized application coverage maps that integrate RSSI, AP coverage overlap, SINR, utilization, and data rate information into an easy-to-understand good/bad heat-map view. LANPlanner designs can be transferred into RFMS to improve coverage visualizations.

Motorola AirDefense Solutions

Motorola AirDefense WLAN Security

The industry-leading AirDefense intrusion and rogue prevention for wireless LAN detects and stops intruders while enhancing Motorola’s integrated L 2-7 stateful firewall, VPN, AAA, and role-based access control.

  • Intrusion Protection. It’s essential to guard your network against unauthorized access. Motorola AirDefense solutions provide 24x7 monitoring of your wireless LAN, safeguarding proprietary information and enabling compliance with government regulations for protection of personal and financial information such as health and credit card data. Motorola AirDefense solutions allow you to identify hackers, attacks and network vulnerabilities, and to instantly terminate the connection to any rogue device.
Troubleshooting. The same Wi-FI sensors that monitor the network can also be used to troubleshoot problems by simulating client devices and testing the connection from client back in to the application server. This simplifies and accelerates problem resolution at the level-one help desk stage, as well as saving time by correctly escalating larger problems to the right expert team.
